Assignment 2A – Bug List
Assignment 2A – Bug List
1. When I’m brushing my teeth in my communal style dorm, and I knock my toothbrush on something, to which it either falls on the gross floor or in the disgusting sink.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because the bathrooms in the communal style bathrooms are not exactly the cleanest of places, and the thought of putting the dirty toothbrush back into the mouth is beyond disgusting.
2. When I have to make dinner and have to carry everything with me down the hall to the kitchen. But then, of course, I forgot something, so I have to go back to my room...then 5 minutes later I realized I forgot something again.
Why does this bug exist? This problem exists because I’m not in the comfort of my own home, and I can’t think of everything I need until I actually need it. I have to carry everything in a container to the kitchen that is down the hall. This action on an everyday basis can result in me forgetting items.
3. Waiting in line at the Starbucks in the Reitz Union around 9-10 am for coffee because every other person has decided to wait in that same line at that same time.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because many other students on campus were probably also up late that night, to which they need coffee to start there day too.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because many other students on campus were probably also up late that night, to which they need coffee to start there day too.
4. When my computer goes off in class from a phone call, and then I disrupt my whole class.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because I forgot to turn down the volume of my computer, and most of the time, I forget that my phone is connected to my laptop. So, even though I put my phone on do not distribute mode, my computer will still go off.
5. It really bugs me that no one on this campus seems to know how to park in between the lines of the parking lots… because I need all the space, I can get to fit a truck.
Why does this bug exist? Students are in a rush to get to class and don’t have time to stop and see if they are in the lines.
6. When you’re holding a lot of stuff in your hands, and a boy sees you struggling to open the door, yet they precede to open for themselves and walk through it without giving you a second look. Love it when that happens.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because, most likely, they were not raised in a family that taught proper manners.
7. (Back home) When I am sitting around the house all day doing nothing, and as soon as I am about to walk out the door to go out, my parents tell me all the chores I have to do before I can leave, when I could have been doing them earlier in the day?
Why does this bug exist? My parents are to busy thinking about what they have to do during the day and when they see me leaving is when they think of all the chores I can do.
8. When I order food at ‘Chop-It’ and all the people that ordered after I get their food before me and I continue to stand there waiting for 30 minutes for a chicken burger.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because they misread the ticket, making me a hamburger, then realizing their error where they then have to remake the whole meal.
9. It bugs me when the desks in the McCarthy Hall B squeak so loudly every time I move during class.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because these decks are probably really old and just need a little bit of oil.
10. It bugs me when people brag to me about all the cool things they have and how much money their parents have.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because they are most likely self-conscious or don’t have that much confidence, so they want to show off the things they have to feel cool and fit in.
11. It bugs me when people walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk on campus and don’t move just expecting me to move out of the way.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because they mostly don’t realize that the rule of the road also applies to sidewalks. Meaning the ride/walk on the right side of the road.
12. It bugs me when I dress in long pants and a sweatshirt for 30-degree weather in the morning but am sweating by the afternoon.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because I was raised in South Florida, meaning it is hot all the time. So when I wake up and see the weather is 30-degree, I go overboard on the warm clothes.
13. It bugs me when some ‘replies all’ in an email.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because the ‘reply’ arrow versus ‘reply all’ arrows are not that distinct, so people get confused, which is which.
14. It bugs me that I now have to take time out of my busy schedule to go buy a new car after mine got totaled.
Why does this bug exist? The driver behind me was on their phone and wasn’t paying attention.
15. It bugs me when people ask questions during movies.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because they are mostly not paying close attention, or they don’t understand that I do not have the answers to their questions because it is my first time watching the movie too.
16. It bugs me when people don’t replace the toilet roll.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because they are either too lazy to do it and just expect the next person going to the bathroom to do it, or they are on their way to get a new roll to bring back to the bathroom but get sidetracked and completely forget.
17. It bugs me when I watch people walk out of a bathroom stall and leave without washing their hands.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because they probably didn’t learn how important it is to wash their hands after using the bathroom, and if they don’t, they are just spreading germs.
18. It bugs me when I accidentally click the ‘caps lock’ on and type a whole thing than having to go back and retype it all.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because it is too easy while typing to click the ‘caps lock’ button without realizing it until I look back down at my computer.
19. It bugs me when people don’t have their phone on vibrate but go on the social media app Snapchat, and while they take pictures of themselves, the picture sound continuously goes off.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because those people mostly don’t care if the camera sound goes off or not. They just don’t feel awkward about taking selfies in public.
20. It bugs me when I go to the store, but I forgot to buy that one thing I needed.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because I didn’t make a list of things I needed and went off of whatever I saw at the store.
When I first started to write down things that bug me, I got about seven to eight before my mind was blanking. Walking away from the assignment and going on with my day helped a lot in completing the full twenty. I enjoyed this assignment; in a way, it was fun to be able to write out all the annoying bugs in my life; almost was like a destresser!
It was challenging to remember to ask myself not, ‘why does this bug annoy me?’ but ‘why does this bug exist?’ Sometimes, the reason I would come up with didn’t seem deep enough, or it just seemed very obvious. I had to realize that I might think a bug exists for reason A, where another person thinks it exists because of reason B, but in the end, that is okay because everyone has different ways they perceive the world and the problems around them.
Why does this bug exist? This bug exists because I forgot to turn down the volume of my computer, and most of the time, I forget that my phone is connected to my laptop. So, even though I put my phone on do not distribute mode, my computer will still go off.

ReplyDeleteSavannah,
ReplyDeleteI LOVED reading your bug list. I had a lot of your bugs on my list as well. I really relate to the dorm bugs because I experienced the same thing when I lived in a dorm.
Also, the layout of your blog is super cute, I love the way you designed it.
Your reflection was written very well. I also found myself taking days to complete this assignment. I enjoyed your interpretation of the question "why does the bug exist". I also felt concerned when writing my "whys" because I felt they seemed obvious.
Great post!
