9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2
Person one: As a small business owner, he did not find that software like this would be useful to him. Although, if his company were to grow and expand, he might be interested in investing in something like this.
Person two: As a large business owner, he explained he would be interested in a product like this to better protect her companies private information.
Person three: As a growing business owner, he was interested in a product like this but isn’t sure if he would have the funds or be about to find the funds for software like this. (based on that this product being expensive, as we are unsure).
Person four: As she is not a business owner, she would like software like this on her home computers and cell phones to protect banking and personal information and passwords. (she is a member of the upper class; Doctor).
Person five: He does not see the Need for this but could understanding getting software like this later in life to protect her personal financials and passwords. (younger gentleman).
The Who, What, and Why:
Throughout my five interviews, I learned a lot and drawn conclusions of who, what, and why. Individual businesses that would fall outside the boundary of data privacy concerns would include smaller businesses or companies because they have not grown or developed enough to where cybersecurity is a big problem for them. Data privacy is a big issue among more prominent corporations that have more banking and private information to protect. This Need is only to people who own bigger businesses, make more money, and are more settled in their life. Because, if you don’t have a lot of extra money to spend, then this is not as big of a concern. Also, if you do not have a steady job or income.
Inside the boundary
Who is In: Bigger corporations, upper class, or excessive incomes.
What the Need Is: Better data and cyber privacy.
Why the Need Exists: Having more money or information to protect.
Outside the boundary
Who is Not: lower/middle class, smaller businesses, younger generations.
What the Need Is Not: High priced privacy software.
Alternative Explanations: Not in the stage of life to afford expensive software.

Savannah,
ReplyDeleteIt’s understandable that most of the smaller businesses did not want to purchase such software. I believe that is because they do not feel highly threatened due to the value of their business. Just as these small business owners are not as concerned, I do not think anyone making less than a million or even half a million should be as concerned about being hacked. The way I see it, if a hacker is going to place forth the effort to stealing someone’s money, they are probably going to make it worthwhile.
Hi Savannah! Great post! I can see exactly why the people you approached would be unable to invest in your product. My entrepreneurship idea resulted in the opposite, in that people with money wouldn't be interested in my gadget for shopping in stores because instead people with money hire a personal shopper or they get everything shipped to their home. My gadget will allow shoppers in stores to indicate whether or not they need help from an employee. Overall you did great, maybe next time try to create a table for the inside and outside of boundary, so that the info can be presented a little more clearly.
ReplyDeleteHello, great post! From reading your interviews, I can understand why some may have the need for this service while others do not. Many individuals go about their days or lives and believe that such a thing can never happen to them, what they do not understand is that in many cases being hacked could happen to anyone. More so, found it interesting as to how your product/ service could be beneficial to both businesses and individuals. Overall, excellent post!
ReplyDeleteHi Savannah,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog post and about the different views you got on your hypothesis. I agree that maybe some small businesses do not experience this issue of data privacy concerns due to the fact that they may just be starting up, however larger businesses, I believe, most definitely have these concerns. I did a similar idea to this but with regards to social media so it is interesting to see this concern in different aspects.
