26A – Celebrating Failure

A time this past semester that I failed was when I was doing laundry. And I know what your thinking, but your wrong, I know how to do my own laundry. Unfortunately, I just made the wrong decision on my part. I had a shirt that was relatively old and pink. I was doing a whitewash, and I thought, 'ya know I don't think it will run; its been in the wash too many times to do that.' But thirty minutes later I found out I was wrong and it bled all my other clothes in the wash with it. From this experience, I learned from it, and what I learned was to don't take a chance just to do another load. And from this story, I hope you all learn from my mistake.

Failure is critical in life. From failure, you learn; you learn from your mistakes and more about yourself. I handle failure pretty well. I have been through a lot in my life where I have learned the hard way that failure is okay and what makes you a better person is to take on that failure and do better from it. This class has changed my perspective on failure because I now have a better understanding of a business. You don't just create a business and succeed; you fail. You fail whether you like it or not, and I think it's important for people to understand that and grow to form it. My risk-taking has not changed. If I believe in my idea and self, I will still take that risk.

  1. Hey Savannah, the laundry analogy was a simple but great example of failure. Funny how you can learn from the simplest things and relate them to larger issues in life. You could even take the part about the color bleeding into other clothes as sort of what happens when one aspect of your life becomes a problem and then affects the other parts of your life.

  2. Hi Savannah,
Great job on this post! This is definitely something I have experienced as well. I take failure pretty well, I take it as a lesson for the next opportunity. This mindset needs to be applied to anything we do, even in business, failure is something to celebrate and learn from.

  3. Savannah,
Your experience of failure goes to show that failure can come in all shapes and sizes. It can even amount to a small everyday experience like laundry. You make an excellent point that failure is critical and have connected your beliefs on failure to the business world. Good job.

  4. Hi Savannah,
Thank you for sharing an experience of failure from your own life. It was good that you were able to learn from your mistake and move forward. You learned that it will run and that you should not put it with the whites next time. I agree that failure is critical in life and can only make you stronger.

  5. Hi Savannah! I’ll be honest, your failure is pretty different compared to the ones that I’ve read previously. If there’s anything I’ve learned from your laundry experience it’s that we should always be safe than sorry. The same goes for running a business. Taking risks is important but it’s way more important to evaluate those risks. If you can prevent something from being destroyed, you should do that!

  6. Hey Savannah, I enjoyed reading this as it allowed me to get a full feel for the fact that other people fail as well. I did find it interesting that laundry was where you failed but when I thought about it. I have definitely failed doing laundry as well in multiple ways.

  7. Hello, great post! Great example of how anyone can fail at something. In many instances, people perceive that failure to be something huge but in reality it can be something as simple as throwing a pink shirt in with white clothes. More so, I believe that failure is an essential part of life. I have never meet someone who has succeeded in everything they do. Overall, excellent post!
